I have an abundant amount of produce right now. Needless to say I am cooking a lot of squash. Since I am pretty much the only one in the house who will pick up a whole piece of fruit to eat it I decided to use the pears and plums to make a crisp, which I am planning to put in the oven later this afternoon. Yum!

It is a very wet first day of November here. Dark, windy, rainy…..just one of those days you want to stay inside with your jammies on.
Hope you all had a great Halloween! We had a fun weekend. I didn’t get around to carving pumpkins until Friday afternoon, but at least we got it done.
Can you tell which one my husband did?
Here are a few pictures of my porch decor. All of which I took down and put away this morning.
We also have this robotic cat that my mom gave my daughter for Christmas. It has a crazy laugh and rolls around whenever it senses motion. We put it on the porch and managed to surprise a few of the trick or treaters.
I am feeling much better! Still have a titch of a lingering cough but it is mostly gone and I am sleeping well at night and back to my very early morning workouts (I am up before 5 am Monday through Friday).
This is mostly just a post just to post something. :)

And not from working out.
I have only worked out 3 times in nearly 2 weeks.
No, my abs hurt from coughing my guts out yesterday.
I have been sick since October 8th.
I can only assume that I perhaps had TWO bugs that hit back to back. Otherwise this is one long cold and the worst has been by far this week.
Thought I would capture a picture of my meds this morning:
I got the inhaler this past Saturday when I went to the doctor. I didn't go for my cold - I had woken up that morning with a bladder infection - but I am glad to have also gotten an opinion on my cold. He thought I sounded a little asthmatic and that an inhaler might help my breathing.
The white pill is my antibiotic for the bladder infection. Almost done taking those.
The 2 red pills are Sudafed. The clear pearly one is called a tessalon pearl, and is supposed to help suppress the urge to cough.
The three horse pills are mega-cold vitamins, and the last is my trusty acid reducer.
I am looking forward to being done with most of these very soon.
My husband has been great, and has even moved into another bedroom allowing both of us to sleep a little more peacefully.
However, this morning he woke up with a stuff nose.

Last year, while thumbing through the Wisteria catalog I came across a decoration that I thought would be perfect for Thanksgiving:

I thought this “quirky little wooden turkey” would be just what my first home-cooked Thanksgiving needed!
But…..I went to order it and it was not to be found. I assume it was sold out. Bummer.
Cut to 2010.
Again, Wisteria is selling the turkey.
I had to have it.
Perfect for my fireplace mantel.
So I ordered it.
Took a while, but finally, on Monday, it arrived.
And OH MY FREAKING HECK check out the size of the box it came in!
This turkey is huge. No WAY is it going on my mantel. No way is this the “quirky little wooden turkey” I was expecting.
Moral of the story: Next time you get an idea about where you want to put something you plan to buy for your home…
be sure to check the dimensions first!
Now, the furniture in those website pictures must be giant sized..isn’t it a titch deceiving?
Regardless, it’s cute and I’m keeping it.

This is Teri.
Today I am an ever so slightly unHealthy Mommy.
I have a cold. :(
I got a bad sore throat Friday afternoon and by Friday night there was no denying the evil truth.
Germs had invaded.
Spent the weekend gradually getting worse. Fortunately my fantastic hubby kept the kids busy so I could get plenty of rest.
It's not the worst cold I've ever had, but those germs sure know how to grab all your energy and take it far, far away.
I missed my Saturday and Monday workouts. I am hoping I feel up to getting up and doing some sort of activity tomorrow.
But if not, there is always Wednesday.

A long walk.
We started the Run Like a Girl Half Marathon shortly after 9 am...and we were finished 3 hours and 22 minutes later.
Pre-race I just had to get a picture with my two favorite flaggers!
This Run Like a Girl Marathon is a very non-competitive, fun event. We enjoyed break stops that were called things like "The Espresso Mile" (we got coffee in the form of chocolate), "The Pedicure Mile" (sign up to win a free pedicure), "The Gratitude Mile", and "The Chocolate Mile" (dark chocolate).
Here I am with my walking friends at the halfway turnaround "The Maui Mile": Oh, did I forget to mention "The Princess Mile" when we got our tiaras?
The walk went along our interurban trail, a very scenic path, and I stopped long enough to take this picture (at this point we were well on our way back and any time we stopped we really wanted to STOP so we just tried to keep going).
Our final pace was 15:04 minutes per mile. We were going pretty fast, and even passed some that were run/walking the route. And, success, we finished!
Two days later I am still sore, but the pain is fading.
We are definitely going to do it again next year - and planning to talk a few more friends into joining us!

Tonight our family will go to the pre-race dinner and pick up our packets, and then tomorrow morning at 9 we start walking.
I have taken it easy on workouts the last half of this week to make sure I have no muscle soreness going into tomorrow.
Hopefully I will be able to get a couple pictures and look forward to blogging about the event next week!

I like meals that don’t require a lot of thinking.
I love dinners that I can start in the morning and forget about for the rest of the day.
I heart my crock-pot!
Since I stopped eating meat (this past spring) one of my regular go to healthy meals has been crock pot veggie chili.
I get a box of fresh local produce every week from my local CSA. I have been doing this since June (and it runs until October 21st). It has really helped us consume a lot more veggies as I try to use them all up.
Sunday I made a big batch. All the veggies I included were from the basket, including the giant cranberry beans (never heard of them before they showed up in my box). The only thing I added were 2 other cans of beans and some veggie broth.
In addition to the above I also added tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, and squash. Sometimes I also add kale but left it out this time hoping maybe my kids would eat it without the “green stuff”. Nope.
Once you add the liquid (I usually add about 4 cups) all you need is about 1.5Tb of chili powder and 2t of cumin.
Add your favorite side (I rotate corn bread and rice, although I made beer bread to have with it this week), turn on the crock pot and walk away until dinner.

A little blog hopping (and tweeting).
A start to the Halloween decor (the mantel is all I did, the rest will wait until it’s actually October!)

Fashion show! I mean, I cleaned out my closet!!
TV time (I watched the season premiere of The Biggest Loser and the movie The Back Up Plan).
Hmm…….will have to move some stuff before I can go to bed.
Dinner of champions!
I had a very nice weekend at home all by myself (my hubby took the kids to Eastern Washington for the weekend). In addition to the above I also made sure to exercise both Saturday and Sunday (50 minutes each day on the elliptical), and SLEEP!! I got all my regular chores done too. I enjoyed my time, but am glad to have everyone back home now.
Today it was back to the P90X. Week 6 so nearly halfway finished.
And I am walking a half marathon this Saturday!!!!

Since I have pretty much stopped using our main computer and have taken over our laptop, I have no access to all of my pictures when I blog (unless I want to take the time to get on the main computer which as far as I'm concerned is painfully slow). But I do have plenty of our recent photo session, many I've shared already at my other blog.
I will admit I was very unhappy with my hair the day of the shoot and I'm not a huge fan of how I look in this picture, but I love everything else.
My hair looked great......... the next day!
Mickey and I started week 5 of the P90X this morning. The routine is pretty much the same as weeks 1-3, the only difference is the upper body workout on Wednesday is different. I like that my husband and I are working out together....it is good motivation. I think after the 12 weeks are done we will keep doing some of these routines, at least a few times a week. Mickey HATES the yoga and stretching, so I better make sure we keep doing some of that because it's good for him (and me)!!
And part of being a healthy mommy is having some downtime. I have to admit I am very excited that fall shows are returning this week, especially Glee, Modern Family, The Office, and 30 Rock. I also have Hawaii 5-0 set to tape on the DVR. I am hoping it is good, but at least we will get to see some nice scenery. What will you be watching/taping this week?
Even though I haven't done much with this blog yet, I am so happy I started it. I just didn't feel right blogging about personal stuff on my kids/family blog...this feels like another way to express myself and another way for others to get to know me.
Oh yes, and the half marathon is coming up in 12 days! I did a 9.3 mile training walk on Saturday and it went smoothly and I was only a little bit sore on Sunday. So I really think I am ready to go the full 13.2 without any major hurdles! The marathon is called Run Like a Girl, and it is open to women only - and they limit it to 100 participants. I hear there are things during the race like the "chocolate mile" and the "pedicure mile", sounds like it is going to be lots of fun.

Now I am dealing with daily mild pain and not so mild bloating, occasional heartburn and just feeling overly full/heavy. I've gained almost 10 lbs, and I work out and eat right (most of the time). So I shouldn't be gaining so much weight. It's frustrating after working hard to get my weight down and having kept it down for almost over a year and a half.
I will ask a couple doctors about it, get my thyroid checked and whatever else they want to do. I just want to feel like my "normal" self again.
My husband and I are still going strong on the P90X. We are in week 4 which is a "rest" week which really just means an extra day off and less weight lifting exercises. So our schedule this week looks like this:
Monday: Rest (not intentional but we took it Monday instead of the scheduled Thursday)
Tuesday: Core Synergistics (45 minutes of push-ups, ab work, and lunges/squats).
Wednesday: Kenpo (cardio martial arts)
Thursday: Yoga (which we were supposed to do Monday)
Friday: Cardio (an hour combo of Astanga Yoga, Kenpo, and Plyometrics)
Sunday: Rest or stretch
The yoga workout is 90 minutes, but I always stop after 45 so I can head to my Thursday morning Pilates Reformer class...this week will be the same. Not sure how much of the yoga I will do this Saturday either as I am heading out at 7 am to do one more long training walk before the half marathon October 2. We will try to go 9 or 10 miles (I did 8.5 this past Saturday and it was pretty easy for me!).

Just about all my regular dietary habits flew out the window...my grandma feeds us, she feeds us well, and she feeds us lots.
Back to the workouts and trying to eat less tomorrow. My stomach has felt heavy all weekend, and I don't like that at all!

I am pretty sure the X stands for "extreme" and that sums it up pretty well. The P90X is a 12 week at home workout system designed to subject the body to lots of "muscle confusion" by going through a wide variety of daily workouts.
I wanted to do the "lean" program which has more cardio and less weight lifting, and my husband kindly agreed. It still kicks butt. We stick to the same schedule for 3 weeks then we move onto a new daily routine. Right now this is our schedule:
Monday: Core Synergistics (lots of abs and back exercises)
Tuesday: Cardio X
Wednesday: Biceps, Triceps, and Abs
Thursday: Yoga X
Friday: Legs and Shoulders (think pull ups and lunges. over and over again)
Saturday: Kenpo (martial arts)
Sunday: Stretch (or rest) day
In addition to this I have tried to keep up my other regular workouts; an hour of Pilate's 2 or 3 times a week, cardio via the elliptical (although I am doing much less of it, like 20 minutes 2 or 3 times a week), and a walk or two a week (as I am training for a half marathon that is coming up October 2).
You would think I would be fit as a fiddle, but I still feel very challenged. If I have learned anything from 2 weeks of the P90X it's that it is really good to mix up your workouts once in a while and work ALL your muscles, not just the same ones over and over again.
That being said, my least favorite workout is the Friday one. I am not a fan of lunges or pull-ups! In fact I haven't even tried to do the pull-ups yet. I just do abs while my husband is using the pull-up bar.
We are going out of town for a few days so we will be missing Saturday and Monday's workouts. I plan to get some walks in while we are gone.
